How the Process Works at NancyEdits:
During our first conversation or meeting, I will concentrate on what you have to say about your project's needs. I normally ask questions to help determine the best way to improve your copy or manuscript.

At this time I will usually also request to see a portion of the current work. I will then confidentially and carefully review it to provide you with an estimate of time and cost to complete your editing project. Up to this point, there is no fee or necessary commitment.

Once a verbal commitment is made, I will prepare an agreement requiring both of our signatures. My agreement outlines the work to be done, time and cost, and other topics.

My editing and proofreading services can be estimated either on a per-project basis or an hourly rate starting at $25.00 per hour. My hourly rate and time estimates increase with project complexity. A small discount is available for large or ongoing projects.

Project Strengths
Like every professional editor, I bring a unique set of assets to my work. My best project types with brief descriptions are listed here:

Abstracting — Preparing a synopsis, outline or summary of a document.

Copyediting or line editing — Checking for grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax and word usage errors. Reading for clarity, consistent style and formatting. Creating a style guide or style sheet. Cross-checking special sections, such as ensuring that photographs match their captions.

Evaluating — Analyzing a manuscript to gauge potential interest or marketability.

Researching and fact checking — Gathering content and double-checking for accuracy.

Proofreading — Comparing your document with a previous version to see that all requested changes have been made. This stage may be the last step before publication.

Rewriting or substantive editing — Reworking an existing document to improve flow and clarity. Resolving major queries with an author or working with other contributors to develop a stronger draft.

Transcribing — Creating a document from recorded or dictated content.
